At CSLA, speech and language therapy is done to help a child improve their skills to an age-appropriate level. Therapy is based on the information obtained from a speech and language evaluation. Goals are selected to help achieve success through a carefully designed sequence of activities. The child learns new skills that help change the behavior that interfers with normal communication. At times, children re-learn skills that were lost due to an accident or injury. Children learn best in a warm, supportive environment that incorporates games and rewards.
Most commonly, young children are seen twice weekly for thirty minute sessions. Every child is different so the rate and pattern of progress is completely dependent on the child.
Parental involvement in the therapy process is highly encouraged. Parental training of techniques used in therapy can improve a child's overall success and allow the child to continue practice of skills learned in therapy outside the treatment sessions.
Our practice also addresses Feeding Disorders and Swallowing Disorders. Treatment will focus on identifying the cause of the disorder, developing a plan to address both behavioral and physical concomitants, and educating the family and caregivers.
Social Skills are important skills that all children need in order to interact and communicate with others. Our Social Skills Group offers children a safe and comfortable place to meet and play with other kids their age while also developing the necessary social skills to get along in life. The goal of Social Skills Gorup is to draw out the fun, bright, and caring nature of a child and grow it to where it's a more natural part of who he or she is. Learning these basic social skills in our safe, child-focused setting will improve the child's communication and interaction skills and encourage them to explore the world around them.
